Awards Criteria and Nomination Application

  • With the continued generosity and cooperation of our AWARDS SPONSORS, the Texas Society for Histotechnology Award is able to provide numerous scholarship and award opportunities for our members. There are several categories of scholarships and awards: As the quote above indicates, talent recognizes genius, so be sure to nominate yourself or a colleague for one of our awards/scholarships.

    • Awards are available to all Texas Society for Histotechnology members.  Applicants/nominees must be a member in good standing for the 2021 year as of Dec 31st, 2021. All awards will be presented at the Annual Texas Society for Histotechnology Convention/Symposium to be held in Las Colinas DFW April 8-10, 2021.

  • “Robert A. Clark Memorial Grant: Sponsored by Sakura Finetek USA.

    • This $300.00 honorarium is given to one TSH member in recognition of their first workshop presentation at the annual TSH symposium/convention or for an original article submitted to the TSH state newsletter (manufacturers and scientific distributors are not eligible to participate).

    • Criteria:

  1. The nominee must be a member in good standing of TSH.

  2. Candidates for this award may be nominated by their Pathologist or peers.

  3. Each nominator must submit a confidential personal statement describing why, in their opinion, the candidate is deserving of this award.

  4. Candidates must submit current curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Jimmy Stringer “Spirit of Service” Grant: Sponsored by Microscope and Microtome Service Company

    • This $500.00 grant is presented annually by Microscope and Microtome Service Company to the HT/HTL who most represents a spirit of community service both at and away from the workplace.

    • Criteria:

  1. Candidates for this grant must be a student or voting member in good standing of TSH, and may be nominated by their Pathologist, fellow Histologist or self-nominated,

  2. Candidates may be asked to submit a current curriculum vitae (CV).

  3. Nominator must submit at least a one-page statement relating the spirit of community service of the candidate (coaching, volunteering, giving spirit) as well as the spirit of service either at the workplace or within Texas Society for Histotechnology, Inc.

  • Donia McLemore “Continuing Education Memorial Fund”: Sponsored by PolyScientific Research and Development Corporation.

    • The $1500 fund is intended to help defray expense of attending the TSH annual symposium/convention, for one or more applicants in need of financial assistance.

    • Criteria:

  1. Candidates will be required to submit a letter of justification explaining their need for travel, lodging, and registration expenses, as well as a statement attesting to employment and lack of funding from their employer.

  2. Nominees must be a voting member in good standing.

  3. Candidates may be nominated by a Supervisor/Pathologist, fellow Histologist, or be self-nominated.

  4. The award winner(s) will be notified before the annual TSH meeting. A certificate will be presented stating that they have been chosen to receive funds from the Donia McLemore Continuing Education Fund.

  • "Golden Ribbon" Grant: Sponsored by StatLab Medical Products Inc.

    • This $500.00 grant is made to the HT/HTL who has demonstrated exemplary service.

    • Criteria:

  1. Candidates for the “Golden Ribbon” grant may be nominated by their immediate Pathologist or Fellow Histologist or be self-nominated.

  2. Each nominator/nominee must submit a confidential personal statement describing why, in their opinion, the candidate is deserving of this grant.

  3. Each candidate for the Stat lab award must be a voting or student member in good standing of the Texas Society for Histotechnology, Inc (TSH)

  4. Additionally, each candidate will be requested to submit current curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Milestone Medical Advanced Technology Histology Award: Sponsored by: Milestone Medical

    • This $350 grant will be given to an individual for their dedication and service to support green/lean lab initiatives, while implementing standardization and documentation protocols in the laboratory.

    • Criteria

  1. The recipient must be a member of TSH in good standing (dues paid) for current year.

  2. The recipient will be nominated by a fellow TSH member in good standing (dues paid).

  3. The present officers of the TSH will determine the selection with the consultation of Milestone Medical.

  4. Immediate past winners and company representatives will not be eligible for this award.

  5. The award will be presented at the annual meeting and used for furthering the education and implementation of advanced technologies such as green/lean lab initiatives and standardization and documentation in the Histology lab as decided by the recipient.

  • “Graham Stevens Grant": Sponsored by Thermo Fisher

    • This $350.00 grant is presented annually by Thermo Fisher in memory of Graham Stevens. This grant is made to the HT/HTL who has demonstrated genuine dedication and outstanding service to the Texas Society of Histotechnology, INC (TSH).

    • Criteria:

    1. Candidates for the “Graham Stevens” grant may be nominated by their immediate Pathologist or Fellow Histologist.

    2. Nominees or nominators of applications for this grant will be required to submit a letter of justification stating their need for travel, lodging, and registration expenses. Or they will provide a statement of intent for use of the cash award.

    3. Each candidate for the Thermo Fisher award must be a voting member in good standing of the Texas Society for Histotechnology, Inc (TSH). Student members are not eligible for this grant.

    4. Additionally, each candidate must submit an up-to-date current curriculum Vitae (CV), which should a complete outline of all TSH activities.

  • “Looking to the Future” Grant: Sponsored by Leica Microsystems

    • This $300.00 grant is presented annually by Leica Microsystems and is made to HT/HTL who is “Looking to the Future” in his/her career.

    • Criteria:

  1. This year’s recipient will have attained the HT or HTL certification by passing the ASCP Board of Registry examination during the previous year, or prepared for the future by attaining his/her associate degree or bachelor’s degree.

  2. Two Criteria will be considered:

  3. Academic Achievement (documented by Board of Registry notification or college transcript.)

  4. The individual’s contribution to TSH.

  5. Candidates for this grant may be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow HT/HTL or an instructor and must be a voting member in good standing of TSH.

  6. Each nominator must submit a confidential personal statement describing why they feel the individual is deserving of this award.

  7. Each candidate for the “Looking to the Future” will be asked to submit an up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV) and a copy of their notification from the Board of Registry or college transcript.

  • Continuing Education Grant: Sponsored by Dako Inc.

    • This $500.00 grant is sponsored by Dako Inc. for the Texas Society of Histotechnology in the sincere interest in pursuing “Continuing Education” in the field of histotechnology. The grant is intended to defray expenses of attending the TSH annual convention.

    • Criteria:

      1. Nominators of applicants for this grant will be required to submit a letter of justification stating their need for travel, lodging, and registration expenses, or a statement of intent for the use of the cash award.

      2. THIS GRANT MAY ONLY BE AWARDED TO AN INDIVIDUAL ONCE.

      3. Candidates for this grant may be nominated by their immediate Pathologist, fellow histologist, or may be self-nominated.

      4. Each Candidate must be a voting member or student member in good standing

      5. Each Candidate will be required to submit and up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV), which should include a complete outline of all academic and continuing education endeavors, particularly area related to Histology​
